How to use MyMacros

A full walkthrough of every feature · MyRecipes guide · Support

Getting started

Sign in with Apple or Google — your account is shared with MyRecipes, so one login works in both apps. New accounts get a free 14-day Pro trial with everything unlocked.

First stop: the Profile tab. Set your calorie and macro goals (or let the app suggest them), pick your units, and switch on daily reminders if you'd like a nudge to log.

Logging food

The diary

The Diary tab is your day: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner and Snacks, with your calories and macros totting up against your goals at the top. Tap a meal, then Add food to open the food search.

Searching

Type a food or brand to search several databases at once. Your recently logged foods sit underneath — tap + to re-add one, and use the All meals toggle to see recents from every meal. You can tick several foods and add them together.

Amounts

When you pick a food you choose the amount: use a suggested serving or type the grams — calories and macros rescale automatically. Get it wrong? Tap the logged entry in your diary to fix the amount (or the time) later.

Copy a meal

Eat the same breakfast most days? In the food search, tap Copy meal, pick a date, and that day's whole meal is copied in.

Scanning barcodes

Tap Scan and point the camera at a product barcode. If the product is known you'll see its nutrition — check the amount and add it.

When a product isn't found (or the numbers are missing)

Not every product is in the databases. Tap Enter nutrition manually, type the name, serving size and the numbers off the pack, and hit Continue. It's saved as one of your foods — the next time you scan that barcode, it comes up instantly with your numbers.

Calories or kilojoules? Australian labels usually print kilojoules. When entering nutrition, flick the cal / kJ switch and type whichever the pack shows — the app converts it and always displays calories.

Fixing wrong data

If a scanned product's numbers look off, choose Edit nutrition on the result. Your correction is remembered for every future scan of that product.

AI scanning (Plus/Pro)

Scan a meal with AI

Snap a photo of your plate and the AI identifies the foods, estimates the portions and fills in the nutrition. You review the list before it's logged — adjust any grams and the macros rescale. Tweaking the amounts after is normal: the AI is very good at what's on the plate and takes its best shot at how much.

Scan a label with AI

On the barcode scanner, choose Scan the label with AI. Take two photos — the front of the pack, then the back with the nutrition panel (include the barcode if you can). The AI reads the name, serving and per-100g numbers (converting kJ automatically) and opens them for you to check before logging. The product is saved to your foods, so scanning its barcode later finds it straight away.

AI scans have a generous daily fair-use limit.

Meals & recipes

Save a meal from your diary

Logged a combo you'll eat again — a protein shake, your usual lunch? On the meal's page tap Save meal and name it. Next time, it's one tap under My Meals in the food search. When adding it you can adjust any item's amount first (or step one down to zero to skip it) — the diary records exactly what you logged.

Create a recipe

On the Meals tab, create a recipe: search or scan the ingredients with their amounts, then set the name, how many servings it makes, and (optionally) the cooked weight and a photo. Macros are worked out per serving. Long-press any recipe to edit, share or delete it. Free accounts can keep 10 meals/recipes; Plus and Pro are unlimited.

Recipes from MyRecipes

If you also use MyRecipes, your recipes sync into the Meals tab automatically — and when logging food, the MyRecipes button in the food search lets you log any of them, even ones you've never logged before. Log by servings; if the recipe has a serving weight you can log by grams too.

Share a meal

Long-press a meal or recipe and choose Share. Your friend gets a link; opening it imports the meal into their MyMacros as their own copy.

Streaks

Log every day and your streak grows — tap the flame badge for your stats and calendar. Miss a day? Streak freezes cover you automatically (2 per month on Plus, 4 on Pro), and Pro can repair a broken streak once a month.

Trends (Plus/Pro)

The Trends tab charts your history: calories vs goal, every nutrient, weight and body fat (log them right there), plus your energy balance — calories in against your estimated day burn. Tap any card to drill into its full history.

Apple Health & your devices

Connect Apple Health (or Health Connect on Android) from the Trends tab and MyMacros reads your steps and active energy to sharpen the energy-balance picture. Weight and body fat can sync too.

Garmin, Fitbit and other watches

Watches that sync into Apple Health work today: in Garmin Connect, for example, enable Settings → Health & connected apps → Apple Health, and your watch data flows through. One quirk: Garmin only pushes to Apple Health when you open the Garmin Connect app, so open it (or leave it running) to keep things current. A direct Garmin connection is on our roadmap.

Widgets

Add MyMacros widgets to your home screen: long-press the home screen, tap + (or Edit → Add Widget), search for MyMacros and pick a size. Your calories and macros update through the day without opening the app.

Your account & subscription

Free covers everyday logging: search, barcode scans, today's totals and up to 10 saved meals. Plus adds unlimited meals, the Trends tab and AI scanning. Pro adds everything in MyRecipes as well — one subscription, both apps.

Manage or cancel any time from the plan card on your Profile (subscriptions are billed by the App Store; cancelling keeps access until the period ends). You can delete your account and all its data from Profile → Account.
